Software update for Samsung Galaxy Tab: Android 2.3
Good news for the owners of the original Samsung Galaxy Tab, your device will start to receive during this day an OTA update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. This OTA update is available only for the Sprint-branded Galaxy Tab customers.
With this new update, the owners of the Galaxy Tab will experience a much faster tablet upon completion of the upgrade. Also, beside the cool improvements and enhancements Gingerbread comes with, the update for the Galaxy Tablet will also bring Bluetooth HID support to your tablet, allowing mice and keyboards to be connected via Bluetooth to it.
Notice that because it’s an OTA update it will be going out in stages, and it will take about 4 days until it reaches all the Galaxy Tabs currently on Sprint, but if you want to receive the Android 2.3 Gingerbread on your Galaxy Tab much faster you can manually check for an update by going to Settings -> About -> Software Update and see if you can access the update a bit early. After the new version is up and running, your tablet should be running EF17.
We hope that with this new update brought by Spring, will see other carriers follow suit and offer the Gingerbread update in July, but as we know what happened with the Galaxy S update, we’re a bit skeptical. If you have a Sprint Galaxy Tab and the update was a success please let us now how it works and if you like the new performance enhancements, in the comment box below.
Full installation instructions are available at Sprint.
