Rumor: Facebook is creating its own mobile phone and OS
It appears Facebook is secretly building a phone with its own operating system and the two persons encharged of this project are Joe Hewitt and Matthew Papakipos.
The project idea was born about a year ago when it was revealed that Google was working on its own phone, the Nexus One. So Facebook thought, what if we build our own phone and OS, and integrate all the Facebook apps, contact list and other core functions and they started to work.
Just like Apple and Google, Facebook will develop the software and work with a third party to build the hardware. The new mobile OS will allow deep Facebook services integration, which is restricted for iOS and Android.
No rumor was revealed about look and release date. TechCrunch speculates it will be an affordable lower end phone, about $50, perfectly suited for teenagers and social networking addicts. No other information until now, we’ll have to wait a little longer to see what other specs will be revealed.
