HTML5 allows Nokia Maps app to work on iOS and Android

nokia-maps-html5Nokia has made its own maps application available on different phones from other manufacturers. We’re not talking about a native application, but a browser application made in HTML5. To see how it works all you need is an iPhone or iPad with iOS4+ or Android 2.2+ smartphone.

With this launch, Nokia is now competing with Google, since Google Maps also works from a while in your browser. Nokia Maps is an interesting alternative to Google Maps, though is not that popular. For those of you who occasionally use maps, you can access the application directly from the browser, so it does not necessary need to install the application.

Nokia Maps allows you to locate your position on the map because HTML5 knows how to communicate with the phone’s GPS. You can look for points of interest on the map and find several information about them such as pictures, reviews and contact information. Also, you can plan a route from point A to point B, with options like “car” and “walk”. Nokia Maps has a feature that shows you the transportation routes in some cities. It also lets you share the favorites places via SMS, email, Facebook or Twitter.
