Apple and Samsung sales exceeding Nokia smartphones

iphone-4Apple, followed closely by Samsung Electronics, surpassed the market share of Nokia’s smartphones, worldwide, in the second quarter, according to market research performed by Strategy Analytics.

Apple has controlled almost one-fifth of the smartphone market with a share of 18.5%, delivering over 20 million iPhones, while Samsung Electronics, with a share of 17.5%, 19.2 million smartphones shipped announces cnet.com.

Nokia declined in market share to 15.2% from 38.1 percent, but held a year ago, as consumers opted for more sophisticated operating systems developed by Apple and Google. As a result the company was forced to collaborate with Microsoft and pass the Windows Phone.

In the future, Apple’s success depends on keeping the iPhone launch in May, which, according to several sources on the market, will take place in September or October.

On the other hand, Samsung announced that profits fell, but sales of smartphones have increased. Sunday the company announced that it has sold 5 million units of the model Galaxy S II, after only 85 days since it was on sale.
