Software update for Motorola DEFY: Android 2.2 available on T-Mobile US

Motorola Defy Android 2.2 T-Mobile USGood news for all DEFY’s users, Android 2.2 is ready to be installed on your device according to Motorola and T-Mobile carrier.

The update is being pushed OTA (over-the-air), but requires users to manually check for an update by tapping on the Settings menu -> About phone -> System updates. The 34.4.9 software update has approximately 120 MB. To avoid potential data usage charges, use a Wi-Fi connection to fully download the software update. Leaving Wi-Fi coverage while downloading the upgrade will result the upgrade continuing over 3G.

The Android 2.2 software update for Motorola DEFY will upgrade the phone’s performance and the result will be a faster user interface, application operation and Web browsing. Also, the Froyo update will bring along the Adobe Flash Player 10.1.

With this update the application can now be stored on the device’s microSD card and set to automatically update by checking “allow automatic updating” under each app’s page in Android Market. Other new features of Android 2.2 Froyo for Motorola Defy include:

- Wi-Fi Hotspot (Phone can provide an Internet connection for up to 5 Wi-Fi-enabled devices)
- Digital Keyboard (Added punctuation to the suggestion ribbon.)
- Dialer search
- Task manager
- LinkedIn social network accounts can now be added to integrate with contacts, social networking updates, and messaging.
- updated user interface in Gallery menu
- profiles: Added profiles feature that provides three customizable sets of home screens to give you access to the apps, shortcuts, and widgets you want, when you need them
- dialler search: Phone numbers and contacts can now be searched from the dialer screen by entering the first few letters of the contact’s name or first few digits of the contact’s number.
- Added new security features, including Exchange-based encryption and password security
