Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray – first Sony Ericsson devices to receive Android 4.0

Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray – first Sony Ericsson devices to receive Android 4.0

Sony Ericsson has announced future plans regarding the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates and devices that will receive it first.

The company has given details regarding the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update and revealed that the first to receive it are Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray. You won’t even have to wait too long for it as Sony Ericsson estimates it will all happen at the end of March or beginning of April 2012.

Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, mini Xperia pro and Xperia active are next in line to receive the ICS update. Again, this should happen at the end of April, beginning of May. In addition, around that time of the year Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will upgrade to Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Apparently, Sony Ericsson have some big plans for us in 2012. They insist that all their current devices will get the Ice Cream Sandwich but for some it might take a while, meaning they won’t receive it until the middle of next year.

Now, there might be some delays caused for example by the mobile carriers’ testing of Sony Ericsson’s software to see if it is compatible with their networks, but I’m sure we can say for a fact that ICS update will be here in the first half of the year.

Firmware update for Xperia PLAY and Arc in Europe

sony_ericsson_xperia_arc_leak_0Some great news for the European Xperia PLAY and Arc smartphones! Sony Ericsson has start pushing a new software update, which is the second minor update after the one from May 30.

The latest software update for Xperia arc and PLAY which we’re talking about, brings several new features and improvements, including:

  • xLoud – boosts your music when played through the speaker;
  • Stereo recording – shoot video with high-quality stereo sound;
  • Digital home – enjoy entertainment content stored in your phone on DLNA certified media devices;
  • New themes and Landscape mode for your home screen.

We’re talking about an OTA update that is being pushed over the air (OTA) and is not showing for all Xperia PLAY and arc owners, so some of you will have to wait a little more because the OTA update is always gradually received. You can check and manually update by going to Menu / Settings / About phone / Software update, but you can also receive this update via Sony Ericsson’s PC Companion, but this requires the use of a USB cable. It is recommended to check out for the update manually from time to time.

This update is available only for European versions of the Xperia PLAY and Arc, and is expected to become available on the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray, which will be released in Q3.
