Sony Ericsson has announced future plans regarding the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates and devices that will receive it first.
The company has given details regarding the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update and revealed that the first to receive it are Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray. You won’t even have to wait too long for it as Sony Ericsson estimates it will all happen at the end of March or beginning of April 2012.
Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, mini Xperia pro and Xperia active are next in line to receive the ICS update. Again, this should happen at the end of April, beginning of May. In addition, around that time of the year Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will upgrade to Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Apparently, Sony Ericsson have some big plans for us in 2012. They insist that all their current devices will get the Ice Cream Sandwich but for some it might take a while, meaning they won’t receive it until the middle of next year.
Now, there might be some delays caused for example by the mobile carriers’ testing of Sony Ericsson’s software to see if it is compatible with their networks, but I’m sure we can say for a fact that ICS update will be here in the first half of the year.
Good news for all Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note users: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update will be available in the first quarter of 2012.
This is not a rumor, not a supposition, it is the real deal! Samsung announced that Samsung Galaxy Note and Samsung Galaxy S II will receive the update while other devices will soon follow.
“Samsung Electronics plan to provide the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for GALAXY devices. The platform update for GALAXY S II and GALAXY Note will start in the first quarter 2012, and other GALAXY devices will soon follow.”
Now, if they say it, it must be true! If you do not own a Galaxy S II or Galaxy Note, don’t panic! The other devices that will get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update are the Galaxy R, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 7.7 and 7.0 plus. Great way to start the year!
The beginning of 2012 may come with good news for all the Sony Ericsson Xperia users, as it is said that Ice Cream Sandwich should arrive the first week of January 2012.
Xperia active, arc, arc S, mini, mini pro, neo V, neo, pro, Play, Xperia ray and Live with Walkman may enjoy the Ice Cream Sandwich update sooner than expected.
Although the Facebook post from Sony Ericsson Italy was telling us that the update should arrive around March 2012, now, a Sony employee tweeted that we might receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich three months earlier, in the first week of January 2012. The nice part of all this is that we’ll find out for sure if this is true in a month from now. So we don’t have to wait so long.
However, Xperia arc and Ice Cream Sandwich firmware has been submitted for certification. Which means we might actually see the Ice Cream Sandwich update quite soon.
Bell network announced today that Galaxy Nexus will land in Canada on December 8.
Canadian fans of Samsung handsets, you have a reason to be happy! The beginning of December will bring a new Android smartphone in town. For $159.95 and a three-year contract you can have the new Galaxy Nexus. Also, on a two-year contract you will have to pay $599.95, on a one-year contract – $624.95 while the no contract price is $649.95. The difference between the last two prices is a bit too small if you ask me.
The Galaxy Nexus brings a 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED screen with curved glass and a resolution of 1280×720, a 5MP camera with continuous auto focus and a 1.3MP front-facing camera with LED flash, zero shutter lag and video recording in 1080p.
Packing a 1.2GHz dual core processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, it brings the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity, a microUSB slot, barometer, accelerometer, proximity/light sensor and a battery of 1850mAh.
Samsung UK has officially announced on Twitter that the Galaxy S II will receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update.
As Google officially unveiled the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Android device makers have started to tell us which of the products will receive the ICS update. Of course, we also wonder when the new version of the operating system will be available for the handsets. But that’s another story!
Anyway, I bet Samsung users were pretty happy to hear that they would be among the lucky ones. However, up until now, this was an unofficial statement. But the company was prompt and confirmed that the Galaxy S II will indeed get the Android 4.0 update. The thing is they didn’t mention when it would happen just that it definitely will. All we have to do now is to see how much time we’ll have to wait for the update to be available.
